I. Program Overview
To encourage and support overseas Chinese students to study Chinese for one academic year in Hainan, the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of Hainan Province, together with the Department of Education of Hainan Province, has established the Hainan Overseas Chinese Language and Culture Education Scholarship. The scholarship covers tuition fees, accommodation fees, textbook fees and comprehensive insurance fees.
II. Application Instructions
1.Application Requirements
(1)Applicants must be of overseas Chinese descent. Preference will be given to overseas Chinese students of Hainan origin.
(2)Applicants shall be aged between 18 and 60.
(3)Applicants shall be friendly to China, honest and trustworthy, and in good health.
(4)Applicants shall abide by Chinese laws and regulations as well as university rules, and meet China’s entry and exit requirements.
(5)Applicants shall not be receiving any other types of Chinese Government scholarships concurrently.

3.Application Documents
Applicants shall register, fill in application information and upload documents via the Hainan University International Student Online Service System (URL: https://hainanu.at0086.cn/StuApplication/Login.aspx).
(1)Hainan University International Student Application Form (to be completed in Chinese) and the Application Form for Hainan Overseas Chinese Language and Culture Education Scholarship (see attachment). Complete the Hainan University International Student Application Form online via the Hainan University International Student Service Platform (https://hainanu.at0086.cn/StuApplication/Login.aspx). Download the Application Form for Hainan Overseas Chinese Language and Culture Education Scholarship from the official website, fill it in, and upload it to the same platform.
(2)Copy of the first page of a valid ordinary passport (valid for more than 1 year. If holding a valid visa, please also attach the visa page).
(3)If the applicant is a current student or employed, an enrollment certificate issued by the school or an employment certificate issued by the employer shall be submitted additionally.
(4)Academic transcripts and HSK score report (provide it if available).
(5)Original and copy of the Foreigner’s Physical Examination Record (uniformly printed by China’s health and quarantine authorities).
(6)Reference letter issued by overseas Chinese associations (clansmen associations, hometown associations, etc.) in the applicant’s home country/region, with signature and official seal.
III. Review and Admission
Hainan University will conduct a preliminary review of the application materials submitted by applicants and forward them to the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of Hainan Province for approval.
The University will issue electronic versions of the Admission Notice and Visa Application Form for Foreign Students to Study in China to the admitted applicants.
IV. Registration
Admitted students shall apply for a student visa to China at the Chinese Embassy (Consulate General) in their home country with their valid passport, Visa Application Form for Foreign Students to Study in China (Form JW202), Admission Notice and Foreigner’s Physical Examination Record. They shall come to China with the above documents, register on time and complete enrollment procedures as required by our university.
Those who are unable to register on schedule due to valid reasons must submit a leave application to our university. The leave note shall not exceed two weeks; failure to register within this period will be regarded as a voluntary waiver of admission eligibility. Those who fail to register by the deadline without prior approval from our university shall also be deemed to have voluntarily given up their admission, and their scholarship recipient qualification will be revoked automatically.
